The 1st DPA Poll - Let’s start with the basics!

Posted by delhiparsi on 27 November, 2007

Your voice counts!

There is a lot of debate around the dwindling numbers of the Parsi community worldwide. We also hear many voices and opinions about the possible ways to stem this decline.

While the situation seems obvious to many of us, and the official figures paint a grim scenario, there are are still some voices out there, which proclaim ‘we have nothing to fear’ (!?).

Of course, we’d like every one’s view on the matter, including your views on other issues, and their possible solutions.

But to begin, let’s just start with the basics - Are we, or are we not an endangered species today? Are our numbers dwindling by the day, or are we just being paranoid?

Take the poll here and share your point of view. Feel free to add comments as well.

In the next couple of weeks we will add more polls, to get a consensus from Parsis around the world, as well as from non-Parsis, in order to find possible solutions to the problems that face us as a community.

Please participate. We do not gather any information about who you are, or where you are from - we simply want to know your opinion.

Is the Parsi community at risk of becoming extinct soon? Please vote here.

Above: It was a pleasant November evening, when the members of the Delhi Parsi Anjuman gathered at the Delhi Parsi Dharamsala to celebrate Diwali with great enthusiasm and the delightful spirit of the the occassion.

In keeping with the concerns for our environment, this Diwali celebration was ‘all green’ with no fireworks causing either air or noise pollution!

Instead we celebrated with colour and creativity in the form of painting, rangoli and dance competitions! Of course, being a Parsi celebration also meant we had great food to fill our stomachs and hearts!

Here is a glimpse of the great time we all had.

Confessions to a Serial Womaniser

Posted by delhiparsi on 2 November, 2007

confessions_women.jpg

What links a hugging saint, a ground-breaking scientist who took on the multinationals, a French Resistance heroine who took on the Gestapo, a judge who took on Saddam Hussein, a high flier who was educated by an elephant, a spiritual giantess who danced with Fred Astaire, the original Cosmopolitan Girl, a politician who lives with two Oscars, a Bollywood actress worshipped by millions, a Chinese entrepreneur immortalized on a postage stamp and a princess who is able to touch her nose with her toes? They are just some of the extraordinary women you’ll encounter in Confessions to a Serial Womaniser: Secrets of the World’s Inspirational Women.

I recently came across news about the launch of a unique and exciting book and project entitled “Confessions to a Serial Womaniser”, by Zerbanoo Gifford, which features among others the following Zoroastrian women: Aban Marker Kabraji, Anu Aga, Arnaz Marker, Bachi Karkaria, Coomi Kapoor, Dhun Adenwalla, Dina Vakil, Jeroo Roy, Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, Maja Daruwalla, Meher Banaji, Meher Master Moos, Meher Moos, Pheroza Godrej, Shernaaz Engineer, Shernaz Vakil, Shireen Irani, Shireen Isal, Simone Poonawalla, Sooni Taraporevala, Zenobia Nadirshaw and of course author Zerbanoo Gifford.

In the book, which the first of its kind, author and social campaigner Zerbanoo Gifford documents the lives and careers of over 200 of the world’s most dynamic women from 60 countries and every field of endeavour. They speak frankly about everything: their mothers, families, education, men, gurus, love, feminism, fairy stories, failures and successes.

The proceeds from the sale of this book will go to The ASHA Centre, a charity fostering greater peace and understanding amongst diverse communities, especially the young. Located in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal Forest of Dean, England, The ASHA Centre is an international retreat that encourages community participation through a holistic programme of performing and visual arts, conservation projects and personal transformation.
